As young people we'd smile condescendingly at the older "church" folk when they'd talk about movies and TV as the "devil's" tools (even radio, consider effects of the Orson Welles "war of the worlds" broadcast).

But closer analysis of my personal choices, being guided towards ungodly pursuits, reveals the Amish clear limitation, of cultural invasion into their Christian community, has great utility. We are so easily distracted and diverted away from a fulfilling God honoring life!

Your words are So true:

"...You will understand the significance of technologies you were told were benign. You will perceive the architecture of control that surrounds you, invisible to those who have not been shown where to look."

I so enjoy movies from 30's and 40's, but easy to now see many agendas: i.e Smoking and everyone had a drink in their hand.

Our encouragement:

Matthew 11: Jesus’ Prayer of Thanksgiving

25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. 26 Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!

27 “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

I have seen the play option for my posts when I view in the App on my phone. Apparently this is automatic for the posts.

1. Open the Substack App and tap on the play icon at the top right of your screen on a post.

2. The audio will automatically start playing in the app player.

Note: Text-to-speech is available on most but not on all publications.
